HCSC

August 8, 2008

We just spent a week working at Mt. Hood and helping out with the HCSC photo session.

Trevor Graves from NEMO Design has put together an amazing program that brings kids interested in snowboard photography together to learn from the industries top photographers in both classroom and real-life shooting environments on the glacier.

The kids learned camera basics, post production, digital workflow, off camera lighting, and the business side of the snowboard photography world from some of the most knowledgeable professionals working in the industry.

It was amazing to see guys as successful and savy as Tim Zimmerman and Andy Wright generously sharing information with a room full of passionate kids eager to soak up every little nugget of info. Can’t be too many places where teenagers are squirming in their seats with excitement to learn about folder structures and file management.

We brought our Profoto kit up to the glacier for the kid’s night shoot and helped a small group of kids get some banger shots of Helly Hansen athlete Jake Knigge

Selkirk

April 3, 2008

We spent last week deep in the Canadian back country at a place called Selkirk Wilderness managing a photo shoot. Amazingly we were able to avoid the cluster-f$%& the shoot could have turned into with a crew of skiers, snowboarders, 2 film crews, and two still photographers. Everything went smoothly and we managed to produce a ton of top notch content.

The first shot is one of the Public Works founders, Mike Arzt shot by Mark Gallup.  The second shot is Helly Hansen skier Eric Hjorleifson shot by Mike Arzt.

Silverton

February 20, 2008

A photo essay Stuck in Silverton, Colorado after 2 days of epic riding, 2 car crashes, on Super Bowl Sunday.

Since all passes were closed (Cdot took 15 cars out of town and over Molass Pass in a caravan) we had to go through Moab, UT… The last collage is one shot per hour of every person in the car.

X-games and more.

February 8, 2008

The anual event/party barrage of Xgames, SIA, and the Freeskiing US Open just wrapped up and even though the contest season moves on (Aspen Open, North American Open, Honda Sessions, European Open, etc. etc. etc.) our season now becomes more about photo shoots than contests.

Xgames this year granted the unexpected surprise of doing rather than full time spectating.  We actually got on the hill every day and we were fortunate enough to get to take advantage of Aspen’s 30 year snowfall record.  We got some good time in on the hill with Eric Hjorleifson, the Powder Magazine crew, as well as other industry peeps and plenty of old friends.

We also shot the Red Bull King of Quarters event on aspen mountain on Friday and Saturday night.

Unfortunately, PK Hunder, Helly Hansen’s only competing athlete, had some speed issues as the course slowed just before dark and then froze for his second run.  He overshot the last jump putting a 1260 to his feet deep into the flats and injuring his ankle.  There was a unanimous feeling that had he landed the run he would have been in contention for a podium spot.

In better HH news, HH athlete, Ashley Battersby won the Freeskiing US Open slopestyle!

Here are several pictures from X Slope, Red Bull King of Quarters, and the junk show after just rolling into Aspen in a packed-to-the-roof car with 2 boardbags and 2 giant Aspen Leaf logos strapped to the roof.

Seattle

January 14, 2008

We just returned from our second trip in two weeks to Seattle to manage several events based around the raising and signing of the Seattle Seahawks 12th man flags for Qwest.  The signed flags then went into the team’s locker room for inspiration

12th man, for those of your who don’t know, refers to the fans and their enthusiasm as the 12th man on the field.  When the Seahawks are playing, you can’t cruise a block of Seattle without seeing the number 12 plastered everywhere.

The fans were amped to sign and raise the flags and the events were a huge success.

Here are a few pictures both from the events and our time loitering in the streets.

Thanks again to 361 Marketing and Qwest!

HH Photoshoot

December 29, 2007

We recently finished a week long catalogue photo-shoot for Helly Hansen here in our home zone of Colorado. We brought the international HH athletes from all over the world to our Summit County Mansion for some super serious modeling. Baily’s and coffee, potato cannons, BB guns, Crown and Gingers, Trailer Park Boys, and good company kept everyone sane while we got the job done.

Jay Michelfelder and Mark Gallup kept the athletes entertained and managed to make a bunch skiers and snowboarders look like bona fide fashion models for the entire week.
